RRB Technician Grade I and Grade III Examination
Eligibility
Age 18–33 years. Grade I Signal — B.Sc. in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT or Instrumentation, or a 3-year Engineering Diploma or Engineering Degree in an applicable branch. Grade III — Class 10 (Matriculation/SSLC) plus an ITI certificate from an NCVT/SCVT-recognised institute in a relevant trade, or Class 10 plus an Act Apprenticeship in a related trade. .
Selection Process
Computer-Based Test
Single-stage CBT, 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes, with 1/3 negative marking. Grade I Signal covers General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Computers, Mathematics, and Basic Science & Engineering. Grade III covers Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness.
Document Verification
Shortlisting is on normalised CBT score against the zone-wise vacancy.
Medical Examination
Railway medical standards apply and vary by post — Grade I Signal carries stricter visual-acuity requirements than most Grade III trades.

Recruitment for Technician posts across Indian Railways zones, run as its own CEN separate from the ALP notification. Two distinct streams with different entry bars: Technician Grade I Signal (a diploma/degree-level signalling role) and Technician Grade III (an ITI-level maintenance role across many trades).
